Rakesh Kumar

Rakesh Kumar is an Indian national Ph D research scholar at the International Library of African Music (ILAM), Grahamstown. He comes from a small village called Khohar in the Alwar district, Rajasthan state, India. He has spent more than two years in fieldwork on Goma-Dhamal performances in Gujrat, India. His fieldwork experience in the Siddi community in Gujrat inspired him to start this project. His dream is to extend this website to a full digital archive of the Goma-Dhamal Siddi community in India and provide easy access to Siddi and Non-Siddi community members and a platform for the Siddi performers to share their performances. Rakesh’s academic background and Siddi Goma-Dhamal performers’ association with ILAM will ensure the success of this initial archiving initiative. ILAM is one of the most well-known African music archives and research centres for music and oral arts in the African continent. ILAM is the leading archival and academic research institute and has several years of experience in archival work. He will create a digital archive website that will be accessible to the Siddi communities and the rest of the world.
