Mission Statement
The Siddi Goma-Dhamal archival project aims to promote and preserve the Goma-Dhamal musical heritage. The project aims to disseminate knowledge, preserve material in different formats, conduct workshops, and connect Goma-Dhamal performers from different regions through the collaboration and support of the International Library of African Music (ILAM) in Grahamstown, South Africa. The Siddi Goma-Dhamal archival project has received generous support from the International Library of African Music (ILAM). One of the most well-known African music archives and research centres for music and oral arts in the African continent, ILAM is a leader not only in archival practices in African music research but also because ILAM shares its resources and capacities with as many other institutions, organisations, and people, as possible. This project is a stepping stone for the Indian African Siddi community in Gujrat, India. Siddi Goma-Dhamal archival project is grateful to Dr. Lee Watkins, the ILAM director, for his encouragement and readiness to start this initiative. I would also like to express my gratitude to Mr. Elijah Madiba, the digitising manager, for sharing his knowledge and experience.
